Information about personnel
VR Group employs about 12,600 people. Most of these, ie about 60 %, work for VR Ltd, which provides rail services. They work in passenger and freight services and in support services.
Largest professions:
• Train drivers, about 1900
• Marshalling yard workers, about 1500
• Fitters, almost 900
• Conductors, about 800
• Bus drivers, about 650
• Freight truck drivers, more than 450
• Traffic controllers, more than 400
• Sales personnel, almost 400
At the end of 2007 almost 98 % of the entire group’s personnel had permanent positions of employment. Some 3 % were working part-time. There are more fixed-term employees during the summer, when VR-Track has 200–300 seasonal workers in its track construction and maintenance work.
In 2007 about 85 % of personnel were men and 15 % were women.
VR Group needs more than 2000 new employees in the next few years.
