Popularity of electronic sales channels is growing

Some 15% of customers already buy their tickets online via the Internet, and VR has expanded its electronic sales channels, as customers make increasing use of these. VR has also modernized ticket sales offices in the largest railway stations, while closing down ticket offices in small stations due to low demand.

VR Passenger Services is upgrading its sales system. In February 2009 conductors received new portable sales devices, providing faster and more convenient customer service.

VR has also been involved in creating Travel Centres, which interconnect different modes of transport and make travelling easier within and between large cities.

Changes in restaurant services

The restaurants and kiosks on trains and at railway stations have been upgraded to better meet customer needs. Personnel skills were deepened to provide faster and smoother service.

A new cash register that facilitates selling has been launched on IC2 trains. Price lists are placed in the seat pockets so that passengers can consult them before the catering trolley appears.

The Bistro restaurant cars on IC trains will be gradually modernized during the period up to 2012. The wall in the self-service counter is being opened up, giving the counter a more spacious lay-out. This provides customers with a better view of the products and makes for smoother service in the restaurant car. New seating arrangements increase the number of places, and the self-service section gets a completely new look.
