VR increased the recruitment of new personnel in 2008. The need for new people is mainly due to the age structure of VR’s personnel. Retirement is the main reason for terminating employment.
In 2008 VR launched a nationwide campaign to enhance its image as employer that was prominently visible on television, in the press, on the Internet and in outdoor advertising. The faces of VR Group’s own employees were used in the campaign. The aim was to tell how VR is a responsible and dynamic employer.
The campaign clearly improved VR’s image as an employer, and the number of applicants also increased – doubling in the case of applicants for jobs as conductors on commuter services. Applicants were of a high standard, and VR received altogether some 5,000 applications for 22 different professions.
Smooth, straightforward recruitment process
VR is further developing the recruitment process to cope better with the growing number of job applicants. It is improving the electronic recruitment system, for example, and enhancing the recruitment skills of supervisors.
In 2009 VR is reaching out to potential employees – for instance at student events.
