VR’s working environment is challenging

In terms of safety, VR’s working environment is challenging, as employees face many hazards and risks in their daily work.

VR has set high targets for its occupational safety for the period 2009−2012. The aim is to improve the use of hazard reports, adopt observation rounds for occupational safety in all Group companies, and in particular to improve supervisor skills in occupational safety.

Training of new employees plays key role

Many experienced VR employees will retire during the next few years. Occupational guidance for new employees and induction training in safety at work are of utmost importance. The increased use of outsourcing and subcontracting also sets new challenges and responsibilities, and ground rules must be clearly defined for each party involved.

The VR Group has 66 occupational health and safety committees that function as occupational safety experts. VR also has a cooperation group for occupational safety that monitors matters such as occupational safety targets and serious accidents at work.
