Rail safety among the best in Europe

VR’s rail safety is among the best in the EU countries. The guiding principle is that good safety practices prevent injury to passengers and employees, harm to the environment, and damage to the freight carried while also ensuring business continuity and uninterrupted operation.

VR’s Safety Policy is confirmed by the Board of Directors of VR-Group and forms the basis for traffic safety. The policy states that safety is ensured by systematically monitoring operations and identifying risks to safety.

VR defines the means for managing risks and carries out corrective measures. This is an ongoing process and takes into account changes in the Group’s business operations and in its business environment.

VR Group’s new Rail Safety Programme was confirmed in 2008 and is valid until 2010.
