About 1.4 million journeys were made in VR's long-distance traffic in July—the popularity of night trains has increased

In July, about 1.4 million long-distance journeys were made and approximately 1.7 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail. In total, about 8.6 million long-distance journeys were made and 13.6 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail in January–July this year.

In June, about 1.3 million long-distance journeys were made and approximately 1.8 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail. In total, about 7.2 million long-distance journeys were made and 11.8 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail in January–June this year.

Appointments to the VR Leadership Team: Janne Hattula to lead the City Traffic unit in Finland and Johan Oscarsson to lead the unit in Sweden

In future, the VR City Traffic business unit will be managed on a market-specific basis from Finland and Sweden. Janne Hattula will be appointed Senior Vice President, City Traffic Finland, and Johan Oscarsson will hold the same position for the unit in Sweden. Both Hattula and Oscarsson will also become members of VR's Leadership Team. Hattula will take up his position from August 1st, and Oscarsson will start on August 7th, 2023. Both Hattula and Oscarsson will report to Elisa Markula, President and CEO of VR Group. In the company's financial reporting, the City Traffic country units will continue to be reported as a single segment.

1.3 million long-distance journeys were made in May – more cheap tickets for the summer

In May, about 1.3 million domestic long-distance journeys were made and approximately 2.1 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail. In total, nearly six million domestic long-distance journeys were made and 10.1 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail in January–May this year.

VR's new diesel locomotives introduced in freight traffic

VR's first brand new diesel locomotives will start operating in commercial traffic on Wednesday, May 3rd . The locomotives have undergone an extensive testing program. They have been customized to fulfill VR's needs and the Finnish weather and railway conditions. The new locomotives are especially suitable for heavy freight traffic.
