VR is putting up for public sale ten Sr1 locomotives manufactured in the 1970s and 1980s, which the company has decided to recycle. The rolling stock will be sold in an auction for companies and associations in cooperation with the Huutokaupat.com web service on 27 April.
In February, about 1,190,000 domestic long-distance journeys were made and approximately 1.9 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail. In total, 2.3 million domestic long-distance journeys were made and 3.9 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail in January–February this year.
In addition to its normal operations, the Pieksämäki machine shop is currently manufacturing stoves for Ukraine. The most important thing for everyone involved is the opportunity to help Ukrainians in the midst of a crisis.
In summer 2023, VR will once again support domestic tourism by opening the Hillosensalmi stopping point near Repovesi National Park, much requested by customers, and Härmä station near PowerPark. During the summer season, VR will stop daily at the Hillosensalmi stopping point from 29 April to 28 October 2023 and at Härmä station from 13 May to 19 August 2023.
