In addition to its normal operations, the Pieksämäki machine shop is currently manufacturing stoves for Ukraine. The most important thing for everyone involved is the opportunity to help Ukrainians in the midst of a crisis.
In summer 2023, VR will once again support domestic tourism by opening the Hillosensalmi stopping point near Repovesi National Park, much requested by customers, and Härmä station near PowerPark. During the summer season, VR will stop daily at the Hillosensalmi stopping point from 29 April to 28 October 2023 and at Härmä station from 13 May to 19 August 2023.
VR procures nine sleeper coaches and eight car-carrier coaches from Škoda Transtech Oy. The new rolling stock will be in use by the end of 2025. The value of the procurement is approximately EUR 50 million.
Last year, a total of 13.2 million domestic long-distance train trips were made, which is about 58% more than in 2021 and about 8% less than in 2019. 29.7 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail.
