A total of 1,190,000 long-distance journeys were made in February

In February, about 1,190,000 domestic long-distance journeys were made and approximately 1.9 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail. In total, 2.3 million domestic long-distance journeys were made and 3.9 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail in January–February this year.

In February, about 1,190,000 domestic long-distance journeys were made, which is almost twice as many as in February 2022 and about 7% more than in February 2019.

“There were more journeys made on night trains in February than ever before. On day trains, travel in February was strongly focused on leisure time. In addition to the winter holidays, there was also a lot of travelling on weekends. Our customer experience continued its good development in February and remained high,” says VR’s CEO Elisa Markula.

In VR Transpoint’s rail transport, total transport volumes decreased by 28% year-on-year due to the end of Eastern traffic and amounted to 1.9 (2.6) million tonnes in February. However, domestic rail transport continues to grow and domestic volumes increased by 13% year-on-year in February. There has been a positive trend in roundwood transport in particular. In January–February this year, 3.9 (5.1) million tonnes of goods were transported by rail, which is about 22% less than in the previous year.

The punctuality of long-distance trains in February was 86.4%. Primary delay entries were divided among VR-related causes (42%), track-related causes (32%) and other causes (27%).
