Hundreds of thousands of new discount train tickets

• In January, VR will be offering hundreds of thousands of discount train tickets.
• Special attention will be given to students, who will be given extra incentive to travel by train.
• The VR Veturi customer loyalty programme is celebrating its 700,000-member record with new SuperSaver offers.

Wider variety of benefits on offer

In January, VR will be offering more discounts on train tickets. The best deals are the Advance ticket and Veturi SuperSaver offers. Students have access to a wide variety of benefits and special offers. There will be discounts of up to 70% off normal ticket prices.

- "We want to increase the popularity of train travel and improve service for all our passengers. This is why we're making ticket purchases more affordable and easier. Veturi members have the greatest access to the available benefits. For students, trains are an excellent way to get around, and we are giving much more attention to the needs of students in our special offers," explains Maisa Romanainen, Senior Vice President, Passenger Services.

Passengers will have the best access to special offers by joining the Veturi customer loyalty programme. Veturi members can travel for the lowest prices, for example, from Helsinki to Tampere for 5 euros and Helsinki to Oulu for 25 euros. Veturi members are also the first receive information on new offers and other benefits. Veturi is the most popular customer loyalty programme in Finland, with over 700,000 members.

The economical Advance ticket can be purchased 60-3 days before travelling. The discount can be as much as 70% off normal ticket prices. For example, passengers can travel from Helsinki to Tampere, Kouvola or Turku on an Advance ticket for as little as under ten euros. The earlier you buy the ticket the cheaper it is. Ticket prices vary according to season.

Beginning on 14 January, Advance tickets, Veturi member offers and other discount tickets can be purchased not only on the VR Online Shop and VR Mobile, but also from station ticket offices, ticket vending machines and by phone from VR Customer Care. Ticket prices are always lower when purchased before the departure.

More discounts for students

Student Veturi members are eligible for a 75% discount on all long-distance journeys (offer good 7 January-2 February).

For weekends during January-March, VR will offer students an additional 25% off all long-distance journeys, in addition to the normal student discount. For example, a trip from Helsinki to Turku can be as low as under 10 euros.

Students will be able to purchase Season tickets for zone area commuter trains for a completely new discount price. The student offer for Season commuter tickets is 25% off the normal adult price. Offer good from 7 January to 2 February. For example, with a 30-day Season ticket, the student price for a single journey on a commuter train from Helsinki to Riihimäki costs just 3.50 euros.
