We do our best for both the passenger and freight traffic trains to run punctually and passengers to get to where they are going in the promised schedule.

A large number of VR employees work with ensuring smooth traffic. Our work to maintain and improve punctuality is performed daily.

We constantly develop vehicle maintenance, disruption management and train schedule planning management. We have procured or are about to procure new locomotive and passenger car vehicles, which improves trains’ operational reliability even further.

Every day, we operate about 250 long-distance trains and about 820 commuter trains in VR’s passenger service. VR Transpoint operates approximately 300 freight trains daily.

Actions to guarantee punctuality

Finland’s fluctuating weather with its harsh winters and autumn leaves bring their own challenges for rail traffic. We prepare for winters and different weathers with many measures.

We are responsible for preparing for the winter for the vehicle’s and personnel’s part. We cooperate with Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency and Fintraffic in questions related to railway network maintenance or traffic control. We improve commuter traffic together with Helsinki Region Transport.

Despite the careful preparations for winter, there are still some days when there are train service disruptions due to challenging weather conditions. Our objective is to decrease the number of disruptions and the hinders caused by them.
