VR and the security of supply
At VR, we are a critical part of overall safety and security in Finland, as the transport services we offer guarantee the continuity of the national infrastructure and logistics networks even in exceptional circumstances. To ensure the security of supply, transports must run as smoothly as possible, even in the event of disruptions. This is particularly important in times of crisis, such as war or natural disasters.

The operational reliability of the transport network is essential in the new geopolitical situation. Reducing the repair backlog and increasing the track capacity strengthens Finland's security of supply. As a train operator, we take care of the continuity of rail traffic in Finland by investing more than EUR 1 billion in new rolling stock.
Logistical transport flows are increasingly focused on the west. We must also prepare for obstacles to Baltic Sea shipping and develop alternative transport routes and connections through ports and north to the west. The main line is a key route in terms of Finland’s security of supply, which will require a rail connection to be built with European track gauge from Sweden to Finland. In addition, sufficient transshipment capacity is needed to the north, with smooth rail transport connections to the most important ports.
