VR and the security of supply

VR is a critical part of Finland's comprehensive security, as the transport services it offers guarantee the continuity of logistics even in exceptional circumstances. To ensure security of supply, transport must run as smoothly as possible, even in the event of disruptions. This is particularly important in times of crisis, such as war or natural disasters. 

The changed security policy environment in Finland forces us to develop transport connections from the perspective of logistics, security of supply and military mobility. It is important to connect Finland more closely to the West in terms of transport and to improve logistical accessibility. VR supports the planning of the Rail Nordica railway to Kemi. The railway would use the standard European track gauge.

The operational reliability of the transport network is essential in the new geopolitical situation and the best guarantee of security of supply. Transport connections that work well are part of Finland’s total defence. By reducing the maintenance backlog and increasing the track capacity, we can strengthen Finland's security of supply. As a train operator, we contribute to the continuity of rail transport in Finland by investing more than EUR 1 billion in new rolling stock.
