Social sustainability
We take care of the people affected by our operations. Key to this is that safety, diversity, and accessibility are promoted.
Safety: At VR, safety is a shared commitment and at the core of our thinking. Read more about safety here.
Diversity: At VR, we see diversity as a resource that enriches the work community. In the workplace, diversity refers to differences among people in terms of age, gender identity, ethnic or national background, nationality, language, beliefs, family situation, health status, work ability, neurodiversity, or educational background. Our traveling customers are also diverse – after all, public transport is for everyone. With our diverse staff, it is natural for us to meet different customers, and we can also create better services for various user groups. It is important to us that all our employees have equal opportunities based on their experience and competences.
Accessibility: We develop the accessibility of train travel comprehensively together with our stakeholders, covering rolling stock, stations, customer interactions, and digital services. Our digital services are designed to meet accessibility requirements so that they can be used by as many people as possible. We maintain ongoing dialogue with stakeholders, including through our annual accessibility forum.
Our social sustainability goals
As part of our Sustainability Agenda, we have set goals related to our own workforce, employees in the value chain, and consumers and end-users.
Examples of goals:
Own workforce: Zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior, harassment, and discrimination
Value chain employees: Supplier assessment and commitment to sustainability (Code of Conduct)
Consumers and end-users: Improving customer satisfaction (NPS) and punctuality
